€200 mark SMASHED!

This is an historic day on lucky.ie. My December 2009 balance stands at a whopping €207.19.

Rage Against the Machine have just been crowned Christmas no.1 and at the time it was announced, i was ‘all in’ on betfair with a balance of around €90. Enda has been destroyed this month and i end 2009 with a bang – earning more this month than my previous 4 months combined.

It all started on Monday when i backed Joe to win with €50 at 1.27. Had i stuck with that original bet, my balance would now be about €40. But i didn’t. I changed my mind and did so about 10 times throughout the week.

I backed Joe, then backed Rage, then seriously considered redding out on both, then eventually went all in on rage. Crazy stuff. But it worked In total, i placed 19 bets on this market over 4 days, totalling €248.

I backed & layed for profit, i backed and layed for loss and eventually, to be perfectly honest, i didn’t know how much exactly i was going to win if RATM won. All i knew is that i had everything but €43 involved in this market and once the results were leaked i bet that €43 on Rage at 1.06 (which was obviously great value!).

I had worked out that i should have ended up with a balance of about €150, but couldn’t be sure – i had so many bets on the market that it was just too much hassle to work out exactly what i’d win or lose in different situations. So it was a nice surprise to log in and find my balance at over €200!!!!

At one stage RATM drifted to over 6.4 and you’ll see i placed a few bets at that amount. They never really dropped below odds of 3.00 until this morning when obviously people in the know started getting official figures. A few days ago, i also won a few quid when Everton lost 1-0 to BATE – i’d backed BATE with €5 at 4.7 (great odds) so i won about €14 on that.

So a massive win, a great day for me and a great day for lucky.ie – i’ve now set a new record balance and one that i think that will stand for a long time to come I may have lost the monthly head to head battles with Enda in 2009 (3-2), but after this month, i’ll end the year having earned way more profit

I wonder if Enda will now do a Benitez and claim it’s not over until December 31st As things stand, there’s ONLY a €200 gap for him to close before the month’s end

Kicking October off

October 2nd, 2009

We’ve adapted our rules again to get rid of the restrictive 5 x €1 accumulators on Paddy Power. We’ll begin October with a balance of €25 each, €20 balance on Betfair and €5 on Paddy Power.

Again we must bet the full €5 on Paddy and €20 on betfair. Other than that it’s completely optional for us to transfer money between our accounts at our own discretion. We just need to remember that the minumum top up on betfair is €15 so we’ll need to remember when transferring money across from Paddy.

That’s about it, otherwise it’s the same as last month. If both myself and Sean can profit for the 3rd month in a row I might start to believe we can turn a profit by betting online.

One last bet

I’ve said a couple of times this week that I was happy enough to finish the month with over €50. I also said during my good run of bets last week that a target of €75 was not beyond my reach. Although I’ve said that I wouldn’t be placing another bet this week, I already had a bet in place since Sunday evening. I backed a six way accumulator on betfair at odds of 8.49 with a stake of €3.10.

Before tonight’s Champions League games I have 3 teams up Man City, Sevilla and Arsenal. Tonight I was waiting on Man United, Real Madrid and Chelsea. I’ve prepared this post early today, if it comes in I might jut have snatched victory from Sean at the last minute if not my balance is €49 (not the €50 I expected before last night’s attempt to gain another €4+. I’m not sure Sean will hold off betting tonight but if he does and doesn’t win and my bet comes in I think I’ll just about bypass him. I won’t be counting my chickens though until I see what happens in tonight’s games. Chelsea, United and Real Madrid are all big favourites but that doesn’t mean anything! Even if this bet does come good, if Sean wins even €1 more than his current balance, he’ll beat me to it anyway. See the outcome below:

*** Update at around midnight:
My 6 team accumulator came good so I profited €22.06 on a €3.10 stake for a total return of €25.16. That leaves my closing balance at €74.16 for the month. That’s a total profit of €49.16 by betting only €41.44. Considering I layed off a lot of money in one night, I could have had an even better ratio than this.

I’ve passed Sean’s starting total for today but I wonder have I done enough? Sean didn’t think I stood a chance so it was a great comeback no matter what happens!

September 2009 – Week 2 Review – Enda

Not much action from me this week I had a high risk accumulator and then a winning treble so a loss of €1 and a win of €9.45.

I then went for a monster 28/1 shot yesterday and lost €1.

Overall for the week though I’ve profited with my Paddy Power treble on Liverpool, Limavady and Sunderland so a nice profit this week. I’m finding it hard to get time to post on here but hopefully I get busy next weekend and also get in early with a few bets and possibly bet my entire kitty for the weekend.

I’ll need to address the issue of finding time to post on here as I want to contiunue working on this site. Placing the bets is easy. Selecting the bets and finding the time to post them on here is the tough bit

September 2009 – Week 2 Review – Sean

My 3 team accumulator from yesterday didn’t come in. Celtic were the side that let me down as they only drew at home. The other two won. Frustrated again by an accumulator. However, i had placed a sneaky €2 on over 2.5 goals in the Man City – Arsenal match.

That match finished with 6 goals, so i won €1.84 which erased the pain and financial loss of my accumulator. Today, i was watching the Italian Grand Prix and layed against hamilton to lead on the first lap. He *almost* lost it going in to the first corner but held on and had manufactured a nice lead for himself.

Although this was a very tactical race, i backed Hamilton with €10 at odds of 2.2. That quickly fell as he raced ahead and built up a big gap. I then layed him at 1.67 with €10.50 – turning out to be a smart move as his price went back out from then on.

Hamilton was beaten by the tactical prowess of the Brawn team, so i was relieved i didn’t just let that €10 i had on him ride out to the end So i total, i finish the day with a betfair balance of €66.99. Normally, i do stand by my big bets but i had a bad feeling about backing hamilton today so that’s why i layed him and didn’t stand by today’s bet.

This is where it comes in handy not having a betting ‘policy’. I know Enda seems to lay everything to safeguard profit which you can’t say is a bad thing. But i just do what i feel is right and if i think a side will win or someone will lose, i won’t try to green out unless i just have a bad feeling about something..

My paddypower balance is now €3.17, so my overall balance is now €70.16. I’m now past the €70 mark for the first time ever. September just gets better and better for me and i’m enjoying my betting right now – sure, i lose some but more often than not i always seem to sneak in more profit than loss so it’s all good.

We’re almost half way through September now and Enda will have to double his balance to win (as things stand). So the ball is very much in his court. I’ve said earlier in the month i won’t be gambling big time – there’s no point. I will place the odd bet on events i’m watching but i’ll be keeping a close eye on Enda’s bets rather than my own. There’s a time to attack and there’s a time to defend. Now is the time to defend.

It’s all over for september!

I’ve started September all guns blazing and destroyed Enda in these opening few days. He’s gonna need a miracle to get back in to it this month.

Feeling invincible, i stuck €10 on Harrington to win the Deutsche Bank Championship when he was tied at 15 under for the lead. As soon as i placed that bet, his odds tumbled and kept going out and within a few minutes he was down to 13 under and 2 shots off the pace… that quickly chopped me back down to size and reality…

I could have accepted a €10 loss – i could afford it after all… but i didn’t want to Instead, i attacked and got more involved. I placed €6 on Stricker to win which would net me €11.76. Everyone was tussling at the top for no.1 spot and i then backed Stricker again with €5 at 2.52, meaning i’d net another €7.60 profit.

So at this stage, i’d bet a total of €21 on either Stricker or Harrington winning (and harrington was out of it – or so i thought). Harrington mounted a small comeback but eventually fell off and Stricker kept cool to seal victory by 1 shot on the last hole.

So it means i bagged €9.36 profit AFTER i’d lost my €10 on Harrington My betfair balance is now €57.57, with €5 still to be added from a special offer. I now go a massive €33.78 clear of Enda and that will stretch to €38.78 later in the week.

My balance now tops €60 and i’ve set a new all time record balance on lucky.ie – although there’s still over 3 weeks left in September, i’m walking up the steps and have one hand on the ‘player of the month’ trophy for September.

So far, we’ve seen nothing to suggest Enda can mount a comeback of this magnitude. It’s up to him now to prove us doubters wrong

So first day over and done with, and things ran smoothly for me. Now i have to do it all over again tomorrow with, get this, a 3 hour gap between classes

I’m all for breaks and stuff, but that’s madness. 3 hours of doing nothing only wanting the time to tick by

This is when i start to regret not living on/near campus

you’re not singing any more!

I said yesterday i had a big money bet on Ireland & Scotland both winning. By pure coincidence Enda had bets on the same matches, so in a rare twist we were both hoping each others bets would come in

My attacking philosophy has served me well up until now. I’ve been much more unpredictable than Enda which has been a good and bad thing but, at the end of the day, i won August’s battle and that was the only stat that really mattered last month.

Ok, on to the bet that will silence Enda’s fans… I placed €10 on Ireland / Scotland winning at odds of 3.77. So i won €27.70. HOWEVER, the reason i placed this bet was because i came across an offer that betfair were running; Stake a minimum of €10 on a multiple bet this weekend and get €5 back – win or lose.

That lured me in to the multiple market and even though i’d bet 50% of my balance, i’d only lose 25% of my balance had the bet gone wrong. So it was still a very risky move, but one that paid of big time!

So my balance is now €46.31 on betfair PLUS i’ll be getting another €5 added to my account this week because i took up this offer. So my balance will actually be over €51 thanks to this bet.

That’s more than my closing (and winning) balance for August, so i’ve got off to a flying start and have made Enda’s accumulator winnings look like peanuts I also had the chance to lay off money once Ireland went 1-0 up (or even 2-1 up), but i was enjoying the match and didn’t want to get distracted betting so i didn’t lay anything off.

So right now, my balance is €46.31 and that’s what i’ll put it down as ‘officially’ but there will be €5 added to it this week In other news, my first €1 accumulator bet with paddypower.com didn’t come in.

Italy won, Spain won, but Poland could only draw meaning i was close, but not close enough… and that’s the thing with accumulators – there’s just so many different possibilities and outcomes and even if you get the majority of them right, it only takes a minority of your selections to fail and ruin everything. So i lost €1 there, but i think i’ll go easy on myself for that

I’ll now have a €27+ cushion over Enda (once i get my €5 from betfair) after one day of betting, so if ever we’re gonna see Enda attack with force, it’s now. With 24 days left in september, he’ll need over €1 profit per day and have to hope i lose money too. So it’s looking good for me

I won’t be shutting up shop for the month, but i will be taking it easy now i have such a huge cushion. With these new rules, i have to risk at least €4 on accumulators so i’ll try to get them out of the way as early as possible.

August 2009 – Week 4 Review – Sean

Week 3 ended in disaster for me. I lost pretty much everything i’d earned up until then when tiger woods let me down. I said that i must turn a profit this week and that’s exactly what i’ve done. In fact, i’m almost up to the €40 mark again.

It started off with a big win of €9.94 when arsenal beat celtic. I also scooped €7.28 the same night on a Chelsea / Sunderland match. That was followed up by a big €16.62 loss when Man Utd failed to beat Burnley.

My laying has let me down in general so far and i lost a big €14.95 with another lay on a Roma match. That took my balance down to just €14.95 at one stage. However, i immediately fought back to win most of it back.

Andy Murray has helped me twice this week. I layed against him at very short odds, to profit €5 in one match and i backed Roger Federer to beat him later in the week to net me €11 profit. Late last night i also won a few euro on MLS (american soccer). Just a word on the MLS – the standard of football is shocking…. truely awful. So is the commentary.

Anyway, i finish the week with a balance of €39.24. Here’s my stats this week;

August 2009 – Wk4 Review – Enda

I began the week with a loosing bet on the Premier League champions Manchester United who lost 1-0 away to Burnley. This was a brilliant result for Burnley and a bad start to the week for me.

Incidentally, my first winning bet of the week was on another United game, when they won 5-0 away to Wigan. I put €4.90 on United and layed the bet of at odds of 1/10 to guarantee a profit. I made some predictions on the Premier League games and this was one that I followed through on with a bet. On the same day, I dropped 10 cents on another attempt to back small and lay big to secure a big profit.

I followed my success on United with a bet on Cardiff city at home to Bristol City. Again, I used a cautious approach and layed the bet off at lower odds after Cardiff took the lead. I won €1.68 here and this got me back to a decent level of profit for the week. At this stage I was up €1.90 and I was happy that I was able to come back from my loss on United earlier in the week.

My final bet of the week came on a game in the German Bundesliga. I backed Hamburg away to Wolfburg at odds of 4.3. Hamburg went 2-0 after 7 minutes and I was able to guarantee a win of at least €0.96. Hamburg won the game though, and I won €3 on this game.

€4.57 might not be a massive win but it’s 32% profit on my stake for the week. Considering I layed off all my winning bets, my return on investment could have been much higher. Will this stop me laying off? Absolutely not, if I could profit 32% every week I’d be very very happy to lay off every bet. My low risk, cautious strategy has paid off for the 3rd week in a row. Sean is willing to put a lot more of his kitty on the line and is probably the favourite to win at this stage, but I’ve now doubled my €20 bankroll for the month so far and I’ll be continuing with this approach this week.

Another good value bet wins €3

Today has been a good day for me. I’m sure there’s no better feeling for any gambler knowing you’ve secured a win. I got that feeling after 9 minutes of the Wolfsburg – Hamburg game today.

Hamburg had to be backed at 4.3! They finished 5th in the Bundesliga last year, only 8 points behind the champions Wolfsburg and have won their last two games 4-1 and 5-1. This bet offered great value. I had €1.72 on Hamburg at 4.3 and layed them off at even money for €2.68 leaving me a guaranteed profit of €0.96 for a Wolfsburg win or the draw, or €3 if Hamburg go on to win.

Again, I’ve cut in to my profits but I’m playing safe and I’ve picked up another win that takes me just below or just over the €40 mark. I prepared this post as soon as Hamburg went 2-0 but Wolfburg got back to 2-2 in the game, so it was a good lay of Hamburg. Off course I could have layed Hamburg at 1.23 at one stage and guaranteed a bigger profit but I made rules for myself and I stick to them. There’s no point saying what if, I guaranteed myself another €0.96 profit and Hamburg have just gone in to the lead again so hopefully it’s €3 profit on this one. Either way, I’m happy! I’m still the big underdog here and expect Sean to come bouncing back with a big bet later.
