Big loss last night

Last night I lost €25 on one bet. Celtic were 3-1 down against Rapid Vienna. I lumped on Vienna in the hope of making a small profit of €1.50. Mug punter tactics that came back to bite me. I’m now down to just over €5 for my balance so it’ll be tough to mount a comeback from here. I wanted to get my balance to around €40 so I could lump on an even money in the hope to go over €80 at the last minute.

Anyway, a stupid bet has left be with slim chances to win this month. I’ll be going for a monster 20/1 accumulator now to try and take me over the €100 mark…. even though I don’t want to finish with a zero balance for the money. I can come back though.. do doubt about that!

Bad start to the month

Last night I put a bet on a danish football match. I backed 0-0 at a stake of €2 hoping to lay it off for a few percent profit at half time. Immediately the home team scored. I then backed the home team to win at a stake of €4 also hoping to lay it off later and not to long after this the away team equalised:

Not the smartest bit of betting in the world and it was more trying to get in to a bit of profit and I didn’t really do my homework. So first action for the month and I’m €6 down

I really fancied Real Madrid tonight though and lumped €13.39 on them at odds of 2.36. This stood to profit me over €18 and I was chuffed when Ronaldo put them ahead early in the game. I was hoping to lay this around half time and ensure a profit. Marseille equalised before I got the chance to do so but I didn’t panic. I placed a lay in for Madrid to ensure a profit of €12.36 (before Betfair commission)

if Real went on to win and at 3-1 up with only a few minutes left I’m hoping I’m up around €6 for the month as opposed to being down €6 this time last night

Off to a loosing start…

Last weekend I went for a 4 fold accumulator in the Premiership. I placed €3.72 on Arsenal to beat Wolves, Liverpool to beat Birmingham, Villa to beat Bolton and Man City to beat Burnley. Burnley grabbed a late equaliser against Man City last Saturday which crippled my bet, otherwise I would have been laying Liverpool in the last match of the 4 to guarantee profit. So I’m off to a loosing start for November and my balance now stands at €21.18. I’ll probably do the same thing as last month and risk all of this in one bet and see if Sean can mount a comeback. I know these are boring tactics but I want to make him work. I’ll be dissapointed if I loose this month again so if I can risk all of my €25 and come out unscathed hopefully I can mount a late challenge to try and get into profit again.

Closing balance is €23

Is it enough? I only placed 2 more bets this week and my closing balance is €23. Sean had enough opportunities to come back yesterday so we’ll have to wait and see but I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back.

Here’s my 2 loosing bets since my last post:

I placed 34 cents on the Spurs – Everton game finishing 2-2. At 22/1 I thought it was worth a punt but no joy:

My next bet was on Blackburn Rovers to beat Man Utd yesterday. This was a great value bet as I got Blackburn at odds of 24/1 on Friday. Yeah I fancied United to win this game but if Blackburn score first or even if it’s nil-nil at 70 minutes I can lay this one off to guarantee profit. I tried laying it at 5.9 but it was picked up so I’m down 72 cents on this one. Blackburn are dismal at the minute but United aren’t playing well and with Giggs, Fletcher, Rio and Vidic all out this was a value bet:

So that’s me down €2 for the month but I decided to cut my loses and see if Sean could come back like I did last month. I’ve bet a lot more than I normally did just to get myself up to the €25 limit but sometimes you have to use tactics. I said before I wouldn’t bet according to what Sean did but I had to break my rules here to make it as hard for him as possible. I’ll be surprised if he didn’t gamble big to try and get back into it so he might surprise us. Fulham at 3/1 at home against a Liverpool side missing Gerrard would have been on my accumulator anyway.

Betting on the x factor…

Last night I watched the X Factor and saw Lloyd do his backflip and decided that he was a cert to stay in as this would gain him loads of votes with teenage girls. I layed him at 7.0 for €2, risking €12 of my kitty. My reason for this is that I was sure he’d stay in and I wanted to rapidly increase the amount I’d bet so far this month. However, his odds started dropping hevily today so I decided to lay two other competitors (John & Edward and Rachel).

In doing this I’d only loose €8 instead of €12 if Lloyd went out, I also backed Lloyd to go out

(I know this sounds dumb), but the last thing I wanted was to let Sean back in to it easily so I was willing to spread the loss across all 3 acts.
This left me with a small lose if any of these three went out, but it was a loss I was willing to take. Amazingly I was guaanteed a €1 profit as none of the acts ended up in the bottom 2 When this happened, I decided to give up my profit on Miss Frank who were favourites to go out and bank on Danyl going out to win me €5. Unfortunately, Miss Frank went out but I still managed to profit 34 cents. I’m happy enough with this as I thought I’d be loosing about €3 on this!

I had one more bet today also. I did a 28 cent forecast on Valencia to score first and United to beat Liverpool 2-1.

At odds of 95/1, this would have netted me €26 for a very small bet. Scorecasts are damn near impossible but I thought it was worth a punt.

I’ve now bet over the €25 kitty for this month and I’m reluctant to bet until I see if Sean can pass me. I will go for one for bet next weekened to try and go over the €30 mark. I’m down 96 cents so far and I went a bad mad today with some bets I normally wouldn’t go for but I’ve now bet my quota and was able to do so without risking too much. I’ll be trying hard to find a good bet next weekend to take me over the €30 mark!

Loosing day today

I lost €1.18 today across two different football accumulators. First up was a €1 accumulator on the following teams:

I then placed a wacky 18 cent bet on about 20 teams. It would have payed me over €450 so it was worth loosing my 18 cent profit for the month so far. I’m now down €1 for the month, not a disaster but it means both myself and Sean are behind for October.

Sean has fallen way behind but it’s not over yet! I’m never one to count my chickens and we’ll have to see if he can mount a come back like I did last month.

It was always my plan to wait until Sean attacked this month again and then react to it afterwards and it’s worked out well for our monthly battle (although I’d prefer if we were both winning again). There’s a week to go though and I still have nearly €20 to bet and I’d be stupid to assume Sean isn’t going to go for it.

A balance of €20 at the end of this month ‘may’ be enough but I still hope to hit at least €30 to make it even more difficult for Sean to come back. I have another bet in place already that takes me up to having bet nearly €20. If it comes good I’ll gain €2, if it doesn’t then I’ve throwen Sean a lifeline! Small profit today

I got off to a loosing start today. I put 10 cents on Leyton Baines to score first and Everton to beat Stoke 1-0. At odds of 66/1, I thought it was worth a punt if Baines was on free kick or penalty duty.

Scorecasts are a bookies dream but the odds here were good enough to have a very small punt at big odds. If Baines scored I’d have laid 1-0 immediately. So I was off to a loosing start.

I didn’t want to be down money but there wasn’t much else about. I had a look about and seen Chelsea going 1-0 on 60 minutes. I expected this to be a tight game so I backed 1-0 at €2.

I then layed it to guarantee a small profit.

I got in on time as Chelsea scored soon after. So I’m up 18 cents for today.

One last bet

I’ve said a couple of times this week that I was happy enough to finish the month with over €50. I also said during my good run of bets last week that a target of €75 was not beyond my reach. Although I’ve said that I wouldn’t be placing another bet this week, I already had a bet in place since Sunday evening. I backed a six way accumulator on betfair at odds of 8.49 with a stake of €3.10.

Before tonight’s Champions League games I have 3 teams up Man City, Sevilla and Arsenal. Tonight I was waiting on Man United, Real Madrid and Chelsea. I’ve prepared this post early today, if it comes in I might jut have snatched victory from Sean at the last minute if not my balance is €49 (not the €50 I expected before last night’s attempt to gain another €4+. I’m not sure Sean will hold off betting tonight but if he does and doesn’t win and my bet comes in I think I’ll just about bypass him. I won’t be counting my chickens though until I see what happens in tonight’s games. Chelsea, United and Real Madrid are all big favourites but that doesn’t mean anything! Even if this bet does come good, if Sean wins even €1 more than his current balance, he’ll beat me to it anyway. See the outcome below:

*** Update at around midnight:
My 6 team accumulator came good so I profited €22.06 on a €3.10 stake for a total return of €25.16. That leaves my closing balance at €74.16 for the month. That’s a total profit of €49.16 by betting only €41.44. Considering I layed off a lot of money in one night, I could have had an even better ratio than this.

I’ve passed Sean’s starting total for today but I wonder have I done enough? Sean didn’t think I stood a chance so it was a great comeback no matter what happens!

Another loosing accumulator

Last night in an attempt to go above the €55 mark I placed one last accumulator on PaddyPower on 3 championship teams. I backed Middlesborough, West Brom and Cardiff all at 8/11 with a €1 stake that would have netted me €4.15 profit. These teams are all going well in the league but I got it was wrong with this one:

That’s my balance down to €52.10 so I’ve doubled my money this month again.

Lucky streak continues

I just bagged another €1.96 profit as my lucky streak continues! It was €2.06 as seen in the second screen shot below but betfair took 10 cents commission on my winnings. Here’s how I did it: There was about 15 minutes left in the match when Genoa went 2-1 up. I actually fancied Juve before this one kicked off but didn’t go ahead with the bet. I immediately backed the 2-1 score line at 1.69. I then went to the match odds and seen that Genoa could be layed at 1.33. It’s was a risk laying a match bet against a correct score bet but I thought it was worth the risk with just over 10 minutes to play and the 36% discrepancy made it worth it. If the match stays at 2-1 I’ll definitely profit after these bets. I decided to lay it off though as if Genoa go 3-1 up I’ll loose around €3.30. I lay the 2-1 score line at 1.51 guaranteeing 44 cents profit on the score betting part of the bet if it stays like this. However, I know that I’ll loose money if Genoa win the match as I’d loose 83 cents on my 2.50 lay, minus the 44 cents is an overall loss of 39 cents. Before making these bets though I took calculated risks and knew I’d profit €2.50 if the match is a draw or Juventus win so it’s worth the risk. It sounds more complicated than it was and it could have gone wrong me me.

It didn’t though and it went exactly right. As soon as Juventus scored and levelled the match at 2-2 I immediately layed the draw to ensure I win even if Genoa sneak a late goal.

The match finished 2-2 and this extra €1.96 means that the 9/1 bet that I predicted I needed to hit the €75 target goes down to a 5/1. I said the 52 cents from earlier might be really important and this €1.96 ‘may’ be a whole lot more important. As I say this could have worked out wrong for me, but I acted quickly and was prepared to loose a small stake in the hope Juventus scored. If they do I win big (relatively speaking), I got a bit of luck but you need that! A bit of careful selecting and another lucky bet or two at the weekend and €75 and beyond is not out of my sites. I now have a nice comfort blanket above and will be happy to double my money once again!
