Manchester United have been drawn at home to Liverpool in the third round of the Carling Cup. The tie is one of five all-Premier League fixtures which came out of the hat on Wednesday evening.

Brendan Rodgers’ side made it through their opening game of the competition after seeing off League One Notts County in extra-time on Tuesday.

After holding a 2-0 lead going into the second half of normal time, the Magpies pegged Liverpool back to force an extra half an hour.

In-form Daniel Sturridge popped up with a goal just before the change around, while a late Jordan Henderson strike sealed a 4-2 win for the home side.

United are set to travel to Anfield on Sunday in a Premier League tie, in which they will start surprise underdogs in the football betting. Both sides are unbeaten so far after two games with Liverpool still holding a 100% record after 1-0 victories over Stoke and Aston Villa.

The Merseyside club will still be without banned striker Luis Suarez for this weekend’s game, as he is still sitting out a ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, but he will be available for the trip to Old Trafford on the week commencing September 23.

Manchester City were also handed a home tie in Wednesday’s night draw. They will take on last season’s FA Cup winner Wigan, who now compete in the Championship.

Last year’s winners Swansea open their defence against Birmingham at St Andrews. The Swans beat Bradford 5-0 at Wembley back in February before wins over Liverpool and Chelsea to reach the final.

Jose Mourinho’s Premier League leaders travel to the County Ground to take on Swindon of League One, while Arsenal are on the road to West Brom, in what many fans who bet on Premier League expect to be an easy win for the Gunners.
