Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo is adamant that striker Diego Costa will not leave the club this summer.
According to some football betting pundits, Costa is wanted by a number of clubs in the Premier League, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all rumoured to be interested in his signature.
He is looking to earn his place in Spain’s World Cup squad but first he will look to help his club win the La Liga title.
Fans who bet on football will remember that Diego Simeone’s team slipped up in the race to the league title after losing 3-0 to Osasuna on Sunday but Costa will be aiming to help his side bridge the gap when they take on Real Madrid on Sunday March 2.
The Brazilian-born forward has scored 21 goals so far this season, and his form has alerted Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho.
The Blues are keen to sign the 25-year-old who nearly signed for Liverpool last season, but the striker chose to stay with Simeone’s side.
Despite turning the move to Anfield down, Costa is still being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea interested in a swap-deal with Thibaut Courtois going the other way.
However, Cerezo insists that the striker is happy in Spain and will not leave the club in the summer.
“I don’t believe Diego Costa is leaving the club next season, we won’t sell him next season, but that won’t stop other clubs from wanting him,” he said during a sports forum at the Complutense University of Madrid.
“Diego wants to play with the Spanish national team and that has been an important decision. He likes Spain, lives here, and believes it is better for him.”
