self destruction again

Tonight i decided to gamble my betfair bank (all €6+ of it). I’d built it up from just 20c but i needed to get back in to double figures to stand any real chance of winning this month.

So i bet big and layed liverpool for €10. I also layed stuttgart against rangers when they went 1-0 up.

Liverpool hung on for a 1-0 victory (just about). And Stuttgart went on to grab a second, so both my bets didn’t come off and my balance is back down to 25c. So it’s looks like i’m out again.

A couple of days ago, i place a bet on Celtic beating Dundee Utd with about 20 minutes to go (it was 0-0). Celtic scored and i layed them immediately and it’s a good job i did as Dundee Utd scored 2 late goals to win. It left my balance pretty much untouched though.

I still have 5 accumulator bets to place on paddy power and i’ll leave them all until this weekend – just to keep Enda worried this month

mother of all comebacks?

In the last 4 days, i won back everything i lost on the liverpool match and went past the €40 mark. I then gambled about €10 of it, lost it and placed a banker bet on John and Edward not being in the bottom two last week.

It was always my intention to do that as i believed they were one of the best supported acts. Anyway, they did end up in the bottom two so i lost my entire bank….

Bar 20c. My balance in betfair on Sunday evening was 20c. You might think 20c is nothing, but i’ve managed to turn it in to €4.20

John and Edward were about 1.1 to go when it was announced they were in the bottom two on the x factor. Last week i played a similar bet and layed against the favourite to go – i did the same this time around and layed John and Edward going with my entire 20c.

They ended up staying to my delighted which meant i profitted by €2. On Monday evening, i then placed that €2 on the liverpool / birmingham match finishing 2-2. I got odds of 2-1 with 10 minutes to go and it was 2-2 at the time, so i thought it was decent value.

The match did indeed finish 2-2 so my balance is now €4.17. A remarkably comeback from just 20c and if i can go on to get back in to profit (above €20), it’ll be the ultimate great escape…

I had placed €4 in to betfair games before the liverpool match so that’s why my account starts off as €13.40 – really it was €17.40. I then transferred the €4 back in to my account and you can see that in the first image…

Anyway, the mother of all comebacks is now on the cards…

Dropped €2 yesterday

At half time in the Burnley – Man Utd match last night I had a €2 bet on United to win when they were 1-0 down at odds of 2/1. Sean got burned big by laying a bet and if I’m totally honest I considered a Burnley lay too but thought better of it. You’ll see my predictions for the midweek games didn’t go well as I only called 3 out of 6 correctly.

United were behind and missed a penalty already but I still thought they could come back. Make no mistake I didn’t think this would be a walk over and I did say that it would be interesting to see if United could score at least 2. They aren’t looking good so far for me and I think Fergie needs to get in to the transfer market before the deadline! I cannot believe that Michael Carrick hit the penalty with Owen and Rooney on the pitch but I was still prepared to back United after the miss.

Matt Le Tissier called a Burnley win on Sky Sports, and Paul Merson told him he should be in a straight jacket! Le Tissier was right, and I wonder did he have a wee punt on them? As far as I remember Burnley were trading at 17/1 before the game yesterday. If either myself or Sean had €2 on this it would have been a massive haul for one of us . That’s the kind of bet that could win this monthly challenge! After timer

€2 is a big drop for me here, but Sean also fell back yesterday so it’s not a disaster. He was way behind two days ago and did really well to comeback with massive wins on Arsenal on Chelsea. I fully expected Sean to get back from the €15 down and I’m never one to count my chickens. He’ll probably take the lead after today again, as I fully expect for him to go for it from now on. It wont surprise me at this stage if he’s nearer €100 than €50 at the end of the month. As far as I’m concerned for now though, he has €5 to climb back again and I’ll be sitting tight until I see a bet that I like. Sean will be going all out to win this, he might win big or he could lose big but I’ll be keeping my discipline and waiting to see if he can try and seal it before making any big bets! He’s confident he can do it and claim ‘his’ number 1 spot so I’m happy enough to let him take center stage. I’m the big underdog here! If Sean passes the €45 mark I’ll have to make a move then but until then I’m having a look round to see what’s about there.

Lost €16.62 today

Not quite as bad as sunday, but still a heavy loss today. Before Enda gets too excited i did manage to win €9.60 so i suffered an overall loss of just €8.

It started off well. I banked on usain bolt winning his 200m semi final and he did. I won €5. Then wheels came off…

I had €3 riding on a 100m womens hurdles final but lost it…

When i tuned in to the Burnley v Man Utd match. Burnley were 1-0 up and i backed utd with €2.

I then layed the 1-0 at half time with €2 at 6.6, meaning i’d lose €11.20 if it stayed 1-0. It did. And i lost €11.20 plus the €2 i’d backed Utd with. Massive upset, utd could and should have scored and on any other day they would have done. It was just ‘one of those days’.

So i was down €10.20 for the day which was a pretty big loss. I decided to gamble to win some of it back. I banked on under 4.5 goals in a liverpool match (they were leading 3-0 with about 5 minutes to go). It finished 4-0 so that won me €1.62.

Then i banked on Nadal to beat Seppi in a second round tennis match. He did and i won €1.50.

So in total today, i won €8.16 today, lost €15.20.

My balance goes down to €30.29, but i’m feeling confident now of running away with this August competition. I’m not worried about losing money – i’ve proven time and time again this month that i can bounce back from any amount of losses so expect me to rise above Enda again sooner rather than later

massive win today for sean

Tonight i bet on two matches. I had planned to. My post earlier was written after i’d placed these two bets, so that post was designed to lay a trap for Enda in the hope he’d read it and (a) think twice about backing Arsenal (b) perhaps stick a few quid on celtic.

I said it would take a brave man to bet against Celtic at parkhead but that’s exactly what i did. I didn’t think celtic had a chance. In fact, i backed them with €9.94 which was almost half of my balance!

I tipped a 2-0 or 2-1 arsenal away win on betfair forums and guess what… the match finished 2-0 to arsenal. I called it spot on.

In total, i actually profited exactly €9.94, so i doubled my original €9.94 bet

One other match i had bet on was the sunderland / chelsea match. This was a banker bet, or so i thought. Chelsea had to win. I stuck €4 on them at relatively short odds before kick off at 1.57.

Sunderland went 1-0 up and i thought to myself ‘****’. Still, i’ve a good knowledge of football and i know Chelsea are more than capable of over-turning a 1-0 deficit. At half time, they were still 1-0 down, but rather than back Chelsea to win, i layed Sunderland to win with €5 at odds of 2.4, meaning i’d win €5 if sunderland didn’t win, lose €7.20 if they did hold on and win.

That match finished 3-1 to chelsea, so i won a total of €7.28 on that match.

So in total, i netted myself €17.22 profit today. By far and away the biggest profit by one person in a single day on lucky.ie. So after that huge €19 loss on tiger woods a couple of days ago, i’ve fought back to win most of it back.

Oh yeah and Enda? I’ll have my no.1 spot back thank you very much I’ve just reversed a €15+ lead Enda had hours ago My balance is now €38.30.

This is 3 or 4 times now i’ve lost big and immediately fought back to win big. Perhaps i should lose a bit more often as it seems to bring out the best gambler in me

Big win shoots sean back to top

On Monday, i lost €4.72. On Tuesday (yesterday) i lost €6. Today, up until half time in the Macedonia -v- Spain match, i’d lost another €3.90.
So in total, i’d lost a massive €14.62 in just 3 days…

Here’s how today went for me….

Won €2.10 on Norway -v- Scotland match
Lost €4 on Malta -v- Georgia match (since when have Malta started winning matches and keeping clean sheets!!!)
Lost €2 on Ireland -v- Australlia match

So at this stage, chips are down, i can hear Enda laughing all the way over in England and luck is seemingly against me…

Then i notice a goalflash – Macedonia take the lead against Spain after a few minutes… i immediately stick €5 on spain without even blinking. Macedonia then go 2-0 up. Balls. Now things are really looking bleak for me….

Earlier in the night, i had made a few predictions on matches and got them right – but i never bet on them… anything i did bet on was losing and this match appeared to be heading the same way (i’d backed Spain at 1-0 down, now they were 2-0 down at half time…

I had a good look at the Spain starting 11 and knew it was a strong side they had out. At 2-0 down and my balance at real risk of dropping under the €20 mark for the first time ever, i decided to lay Macedonia with €6.

I watch both teams come out for the second half and Spain look up for it… they eventually blitz Macedonia with 3 goals in quick succession. That’s why they’re european champions.

Spain go on to win 3-2 and my balance finishes the day at €33.63.

I’m back in business. I’m now no.1 again on lucky.ie and i’ve ended my 2 day losing streak with a big profit of €6.96 today.

Risking €8.68

Today, i’m doing something very risky – i’m risking €8.68 to win €3. That’s over 33% of my kitty being risked tonight.

I won’t say exactly what i’m betting on yet but it’s on this evening’s Champions League matches. I’m confident my bet will come good – i’ve done my homework but as we all know there are no such things as sure bets.

*If* this bet pays off, i’ll be up €3 for the day which will be my biggest profit yet and my balance will then stand at over €27.50.

Lose, and my balance goes right down to €16. So there’s a lot at stake and this bet has the potential to wipe out my previous 3 days of profit, plus leave me €4 in the red.

But that’s what gambling is all about… taking calculated risks to win more.

Gambling on myself

I needed to get some momentum going today to close the gap on Sean. He hasn’t lost a bet so far and I’m impressed! I’ve done nothing but loose so far, and continued that trend earlier today! I backed Donegal to beat Cork at 7/2 in the hope that I could lay them off in play at 11/10, same idea as my bet on the the Limerick-Meath game yesterday with a similar result. Donegal never got close to Cork after the first 2 minutes! Another loss:

At the same time as this, I placed a very very small bet of 32 cents (only 1.6% of my monthly bankroll) on Rangers to beat Arsenal in the Emirates Cup. I thought Rangers were worth a punt at odds of 8/1, given that both them and Arsenal played yesterday anything could have happened in this two horse race. A return of 2.24 for a stake of 32 cents would have been great. I was hoping that the game would be tight and Rangers would sneak a goal late in the second half. I was wrong, it’s 2-0 Arsenal as I’m writing this and that’s another loosing bet – bar a miracle. That’s four loosing bets on the trot to be exact. Not Good!

So my balance after both these bets was €16.60. Down €3.40 for the month so far. I was going to leave it at that for the day. I sat down and watched the Donegal match for half an hour and decided I needed to fight back hard and decrease Sean’s lead. I decided to bet on myself on the Betfair poker tables again. I was determined I’d come out ahead and went straight to the sit and go tournaments in the Betfair Poker Lobby. I entered a $2.00 + 20c rake tourney with 9 players, where the top 3 are placed. I didn’t get a card so I couldn’t make a play. When I did go all in, I was ahead in the heads up so I made the right move but I was zapped by a king on the river (I had Ace high the other guy had King high). I finished just outside the prize money in 4th place. So I’m down another €1.56 (that’s 2 dollars 20 cents in euro – the Betfair poker tables operate in dollars). Balance = 15.04! I went to the poker tables determined and I know from experience if I keep my discipline I can turn a profit. I brush off the first game and enter another $2+$0.20 Super Turbo NL Hold’em game. I play my normal game, I get a few good hands this time and I take the $9 (€6.37) for first place. Here’s the details of my GAA losses and my poker winnings:

I’ve lost

I had a €2 bet on the Meath v Limerick 4th round qualifier and it’s not good news. I didn’t think there would be much between the teams and I thought that Limerick provided a bit of value at almost 2/1. I was wrong! I thought that if Limerick kept it tight until around half time then their odds would drop to just above even money. So I placed a lay of limerick for €2.50 at 2.1 to try and green up on this market. This would have left me with 50 cents profit for both the draw and Meath and just over a euro if Limerick won it. Unfortunately the lowest that Limerick traded during the match was 2.48 so I ended up loosing my initial 2 euro stake! I was surprised that it wasn’t picked up as Limerick should have levelled the game right on the stroke off full time but they carried the ball too far. Here’s my bet below:

After Sean’s win earlier today, I thought my best bet to catch him was at the poker table. I entered a nine man table game at 10c + 1c rake in the hope that I could turn a profit but it wasn’t to be and I went out in 6th place with Ace/Nine suited. If I placed first in this sit and go tournament I would have won 45 cents so I was right back up there with Sean. I videod some hands in the game and I’ve emailed Betfair to see if it’s ok to post videos without breaking their terms of service. If I’m not, i’ll add the video to this post later. Betfair only seems to have taken 8 cents instead of 11 cents for this game so my new balance is 17.92:

That leaves me €2.08 in the red by day one and I’m trailing Sean by €2.50 already. I still think I’ll have another bet of the Gaa matches tomorrow but I may let the game start before betting this time. I’m behind but I’m not finished by a long shot. Tomorrow is a new day!
