Wimbledon is known around the world as one of the most prestigious tennis events. The tournament has been held at the All England Club in Wimbledon since 1877 making it the oldest tennis competition in the world. It is one of four Grand Slam events, but is the only Major tournament that is still played on grass. It will be held from the 25th of June to the 8th of July.
In this particular article, I shall focus my attention on the current Wimbledon champion and world number one Novak Djokovic. I will talk about Djokovic’s successes in the four Grand Slam events, along with his chances in this year’s Wimbledon, and I shall finalise the article with the bookmaker’s odds for the Serbian international to win the competition.
Novak Djokovic has managed to claim five Grand Slam titles in his nine-year professional career. The first time the Serb obtained a Major was in the 2008 Australian Open where he defeated French international Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. It was another three years before Djokovic won a Grand Slam title. He won the 2011 Australian Open, for a second time, by beating British national, Andy Murray, in the finals. Djokovic managed to win another two Grand Slam titles in the same year winning the US Open and Wimbledon, defeating Spanish superstar, Rafael Nadal, in both finals. This year the Serb has already claimed the Australian Open and looks set to win more prestigious titles.
So, to answer the question in the title: “Can Novak Djokovic win the men’s singles in this year’s tournament?” My answer would have to be a definite yes. The Serb has produced some excellent tennis in the past few years. He deserves to be the world number one ranking and is certainly my favourite to win the 2012 Wimbledon. In Wimbledon betting, the bookmakers agree with my opinion and see the Serbian international as the favourite to win the tournament with odds of around 2/1.
